Progress Update

Progress Update
So far I have been able to create my product, had a change around with the colour palette of the website and tried a variety of different style so that I made full use of the colour palette I have chosen - grey, yellow and black. I have uploaded al the text content onto the website, I have already taken my images but some of the images could have been improved and so I am going to retake the images, I have already started re-taking the studio images as I wasn't happy with the jumper studio image and have already re-taken the image but I still want to re-take the charity fundraiser image as I never included an image of the person involved in the fundraising I just had a field but most of my images didn't include a model and so to correct this I decided to chose images which I could physically get somebody to stand in the image.

How happy I am with product
I am not 100% with the product as I have mentioned in the paragraph above I want to redo some of the images so that it looks like more work has been taken into the image because although I have taken thought into how to frame and composition the image it is a more professional and conventional element if you actually include people in the images. I am still not 100% with the colour of the website and I have tried different designs but I am still not happy.

What I need to do to be happy with the product
To make me completely happy with the product I am going to evaluate what works and what doesn't in my product and then whatever doesn't work will be scrapped in favour of something that does. I am thinking of changing the colour strip at the top of the page as t is quite a bold colour I am thinking of changing it so that when I add splashes of yellow into the rest of the page it will be more eye catching.
Up until now without having changed the yellow strip on my page I feel that on a scale of 0---------10 I am about 7.
I have now changed the yellow strip to a tone of grey but I have chosen to use a lighter tone from the main strip so that it will give the illusion of a border/frame.
After seeing this improvement I am now around 8 on a 0---------10 scale.

Time management - Bracelet image

I was in the studio and needed to take images for my adverts and so brought with me some jewellery, I placed the bracelet in a box which was suitable to put a bracelet in. I then had a selection of images to choose from which used the bracelet and once I had chosen the image I wanted to use I then opened the image onto Photoshop.

I used the Polygon lasso tool as this would allow me to carefully go around the box, I have also used the Refine Edge tool once I had finished going around the box as this will allow me to choose a softer edge,  you can also make it move the edge so it fades further away so that you have a better finnish as it will feather edges so that the edit will look more professional.

This is the end result after editing the image on Photoshop and I will now be able to place the image on my www.wix.com account beside my advert.

Newspaper and Website comparison

After starting my first ancillary task I needed to know that if the website article would use the same information as the newspaper articles because if they don't use the same information I will need to make a start on re-writing the articles. As you would imagine you would get more in a newspaper article because you have to pay for the newspaper but this is not the case they are exactly the same:

  • They have the same main sell-line.
  • They have the same images
  • They have the same article (same ordering or sentences)
  • They have the same images information underneath the image
However they do have some differences from a newspaper and to the newspaper's website:
  • Although they use the same images they have cropped the images down on the newspaper ad I think they have done this because it cost more to print on paper and so the more compact your articles are the less you have to pay to get the newspaper printed.
  • They have the same images information underneath the image however the layout of where the information is displayed is different as on the newspaper they have it on the newspaper in a white box and for the website they have it displayed underneath in grey writing.
  • The layout for the newspaper and the website is different as there is a paragraph space for every sentence in the article however for the newspaper they have used a a paragraphing style for the article but they have not left a space between each as the sentence is directly underneath.

Time management - Facebook cover image

At the moment I am working on both the WIX website getting it ready for the first draft to be ready for next week I am also working on my photographs that I have taken recently so that I can upload them.

Facebook Cover Image

As you can see on the first image, this is an existing example of what can be found on Facebook cover images and so I decided to replicate this design in my work and so opened Photoshop and started getting rid of what images and content which was inside the devices and also the content on the outside of the devices. The third image shows the final look of the masthead after taking the previous content away.
The second images shows the different experiments of my masthead and it also shows the improvements of each stage as I have started a more simple design and have expanded by getting more and more developed. I have decided that even though my masthead has a image of the Monk Wear Mouth Bridge, I don't want to overcrowd the Facebook device cover image as I am going to have the image masthead along with the Sunnyside text on the masthead in a small image beside this one and so my audience will be able to recognise the masthead.

Time management - progress

I have completed most of the written work for my ancillary task, I have added my images and have even made a start on adding links to different parts of the website.

To progress today I will need to finnish linking my pages and change the colour palette for the website to suit my colour palette.

Time Management - At the moment

I have just created my social networking page for my newspaper company, after looking at other newspaper social networking pages I have found that they have put a line of devices to show how you can view the newspaper. I like this idea of viewing devices that the you can access the newspaper this gives them a visual representation of what you can view the newspaper on.

I really liked this layout and style and so took the content out of the devices and replaced it with my colour palette.

I had a few different ideas as to what i wanted to do for my masthead and so started creating the 4 four different ideas but after only doing 2 I already had a favourite.

I wanted to use the yellow colour as this was ideal colour palette and so I wanted to use the colour palette in my masthead.

I then placed the masthead that I created into the device image that I had taken from the Metro Facebook page.

My Audience Profiling research questions

My Audience Profiling Research

Can you just introduce yourself and what you do for a living? - age gender

Do you read a newspaper? – how often – daily/weekly/monthly/less/more

Do you read local newspapers? If so what – Sunderland Echo, i newspaper or daily mail.

When do you get your newspaper?

Where would you buy a newspaper? – supermarket/corner store/news agents

What do you want out of a newspaper? (news, sport, music, weather)

Is there anything that would particularly interest you into reading a newspaper? – layout, content

What are your interest?

What would you usually spend your money on?

 What do you watch?

How much they would spend on a newspaper?

How much money do you earn?

Why do you read a newspaper?

Is there any other form of media where you would go to for news?

Photoshoot planning

For my photographs I am planning to use both the studio and on location photographs. I have already asked for the use of the car from my parents to drive around and take images of the local area for example the local pubs, football parks and allotments.

I would also like to book the studio in and so I would have to look at the scheduele for the studios to see when it would be free, when the camera is free and also I will need to again ask my parents for the use of the car to actually get down to the College.
For the studio images I needed to look for suitable items that would relate to the article and also be conventional to the newspaper industry.

Newspaper logo draft

I have thought of this idea as I would like to have a logo illustrate my idea and so played around with the idea of incorporating the sun in the logo for example the first log I have used simple thin text and then for the word 'side' I have used a sun for the 'i'. For the next logo I have opted to use the image rather than the word and then side inside of the sun. For the third logo I thought I could go for a simple design and use a big 's' for both the words 'sunny' 'side'. Finally I thought I could use the design of the sun like the second logo and then write 'Sunnyside' in big writing in the middle and then the sun around it.
I want to use the word sunnyside as my newspaper is all about writing about the happy stories in the news and so though by using something related to happiness - the sun and also the fact that the sun is yellow which symbols happiness which would relate and match the colour palette I have chosen for my newspaper.

Publishing company logo draft

I have thought of this idea as I would like to have a publishing company that would back local newspapers rather than use a publishing company that would produce national newspapers as they would have a different style and a different agender.
I want to use this design as the 'L' would stand for local and the 'N' would stand for News. This gives a recgonisable brand that I would be happy for my newspaper to be associated with.
